2/03/12 - I received this drive today, and installed it in my MacBook Pro right away. The installation was fairly easy - I had previously opened the unit to upgrade memory, so this was no problem. The stock drive in the MBP is held in place by small screw-in "ears" at each corner of the drive; don't forget to remove these from the old stock drive and install them on the new drive (holes are provided on the new drive for this). After reassembling, I reinstalled OS X Lion using the disk repair facility and downloaded Lion online (You'll need to format the drive for the Mac format before you do the install)

Initial boot-up was actually measurably improved - attributable to the faster disk speed (7500rpm vs. 5000). I reinstalled my data from time machine backup and was ready to test the drive out. I rebooted the computer a couple of times to give the adaptive memory a chance to "memorize" my boot up data. Boot time decreased from 70 seconds to a little over 20 seconds. But the real improvement came in loading applications. Safari opens almost instantaneously, as does Mail. iPhoto takes only a moment, and I'm loading over 3000 photos. I normally run Windows7 in a virtual machine using Parallels. Boot time for Windows has also increased dramatically. So far there have been no issues. The drive is virtually noiseless, and so far the fan has run only minimally.

I've experienced none of the negative issues I've read in some reviews, but of course I've only been up and running with it for one day. But so far, it appears to be a really worthwhile investment.

Installed this in my 2011 Mac Mini and the Mini now boots up in 15 seconds. Applications just "pop up" on the screen. Well worth the investment, but I wonder how much cheaper it would have been if it wasn't for the floods in Thailand. I have had absolutely no problems with this drive. Seagate got it right this time. It is much faster than their 500gb XT drive.

I installed this disk into my 13" Mac Pro, the overall performance of this disk is very good, fast boot time, fast response time, no frozen. In addition, I find that its speed will increase as you use it more. I installed win 7 on my mac and the overall score is 5.9.
But one thing I want to point out is its price. I bought this disk about 20 days ago, the price was around $210, recently I found its price always changed, between $200 and $180. Any way, I think it worth my $210. I am very satisfied with it, I like it. ^.^

The negative reviews of this model's predecessor worried me, but when I saw Seagate had released a new, updated version that addressed those, I bought it.

I've not been sorry. I run a mid-2010 MacBook Pro with 8GB of memory. I cloned my original drive using SuperDuper, then installed this one. It's performed flawlessly for the last 3 months. The speed increase is quite noticeable, especially on boot-up (about 1 minute now, vs. 2.75 min before) and waking from sleep (3-5 seconds, vs. up to 30 seconds before).

I highly recommend this drive -- probably not as fast as a pure SSD, but a lot cheaper.
